Traffic control

Agent traffic control: flight plans and clearances for AI agents

Before an agent visits a website or API, it files a flight plan with Rightshold and gets a signed clearance the destination verifies offline, built on the agent's licence and the destination's own published signals.

Try it

curl -s 'https://www.rightshold.com/v1/airspace?domain=example.com'
curl -s https://www.rightshold.com/v1/flight-plans -H "authorization: Bearer $RIGHTSHOLD_API_KEY" -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"agent":"<your agent handle>","destination":"example.com","purpose":"read","minutes":60}'

What is a flight plan?

A short statement an agent files before it goes somewhere: the destination, the purpose (read, search_index, crawl, train, transact or post), the paths, the request rate and the time window.

What decides a clearance?

Only facts anyone can re-check: the agent's registration and RS-KYA level (key-bound, L1 or higher) and the destination's own robots.txt (including Content Signals), ai.txt and TDMRep signals for that purpose. A destination that opted out of AI training, by robots.txt, a Content Signal (ai-train=no) or TDMRep, is never cleared for training.

How does a destination check a clearance?

Offline: the clearance is an EdDSA token (typ rs-clearance+jwt) signed with the keys at https://www.rightshold.com/.well-known/jwks.json, issued for one domain, purpose and window and bound to the agent's key. Online: POST https://www.rightshold.com/v1/clearances/verify, or pass it to the Gate as clearance.

Does a clearance let an agent ignore a site's rules?

No. A clearance records what Rightshold could verify. The destination's own rules always win, and it may refuse a cleared agent.

What does it cost?

Checking a destination and verifying a clearance are free with no key. Filing a flight plan needs the agent's account key, so the clearance names an agent its operator answers for.

What happens when an agent is suspended?

Its clearances stop verifying online at once, whatever their expiry; offline checks rely on short windows (one hour by default, at most a day).
