# Are Google Fonts free for commercial use?

**Short answer:** Yes. Google states that every font on Google Fonts is open source and free of cost, and that you can use them commercially, including in logos, websites, apps, print and products you sell. Most are under the SIL Open Font License 1.1; some are under the Apache License 2.0 or the Ubuntu Font License. The conditions apply to the font files themselves: if you bundle, redistribute or modify a font, keep its license with it, and under the OFL don't sell the font files on their own and don't use a Reserved Font Name for a modified version.

## Checklist
1. Confirm the family's license on its Google Fonts page or in the OFL.txt / LICENSE.txt file next to it in github.com/google/fonts.
2. Rendering text with the font (web pages, app screens, logos, print, video, documents) needs no attribution and puts no license on your work.
3. Bundling or self-hosting the font files (in an app, a game, a PDF generator, your own web server): include the font's license file.
4. Modifying the font (subsetting aside, which the OFL FAQ treats as a modification you can make for web use): keep it under the same license, and rename it if the original declares a Reserved Font Name.
5. Don't sell OFL font files by themselves; selling software or products that bundle them is allowed.
6. Privacy: loading fonts through the Google Fonts Web API sends each visitor's IP address to Google. Self-hosting the files avoids that.
7. Fonts that are not in the Google Fonts library are not covered; Google's FAQ says Product Sans, for one, is only for Google's own products.

## License checks (computed)
Yes means the license grants the use, on the duties listed. Duties such as source_disclosure, share_alike and network_source_offer are the ones that conflict with keeping a product closed-source.
